My only complaint here was that the music was ungodly loud, but maybe that’s just my age showing.Īs the bartenders started pouring the complimentary flutes of champagne around 11:30 we retrieved our coats, skipped the champagne, and staked out a great spot next to the police barriers as close as we possible to the ball drop. They only had a select few TVs turned on which played music videos matching the songs the DJ was spinning. A solid variety of stuffed mushrooms, bacon wrapped shrimp, pizza, and cheese. The offerings were certainly not bottom shelf.Įvery time we looked down there was a new plate of food on the bar in front of us. They had a decent selection of local craft beers, some Belgians, and your customary macro brewed lager.Īlthough not a mixed drink aficionado, the liquor selection looked pretty decent. I noticed most people weren’t tipping, and we probably would have gotten solid service without throwing some money out for them, but I sleep better at night that way. We decided to tip the bartender well and she was eager to refill our beer and water glasses. They removed all the bar seats so we had to stand but had plenty of elbow room. After checking out coats for $4 per coat, we set up shop at the bar. As we had only purchased the general admission passes, we didn’t have a table, but it didn’t really matter.

Once inside, we only had to wait 5 minutes before the free drinks started flowing. Getting through security at 6th and 49th was the worst part, as the line moved slowly through the frigid night while we waited for our escort to the front doors. The evening was reportedly the 2nd coldest NYE on record in Times Square, and we were so glad we were not standing outside in the wind and cold. I’d recommend stopping in the day before to get your passes. If you book more than a day or two in advance, they will have a nice lanyard with your pass attached that will get you through the police checkpoints and into the venue seamlessly. We chose to ring in the new year 2018 at Tonic in Times Square and had a great time, got to see the ball drop in person, ate and drank all we could handle, and had easy access to bathrooms. This is a much more practical and fun alternative to standing outside in the cold all day holding your spot to watch the ball drop.

Definitely recommend this event to anyone who wants to ring in the new year in Times Square without dealing with the nightmare of a crowd and inconvenience of being out in the cold without access to restrooms. I'd celebrate NYE here again, without a doubt. Plus, it's pretty standard for small parties to have to share tables at these events.Īll things considered, the positive outweighed the negatives. Fortunately, they were great company, so we didn't mind. Lastly, we were only a party of 2, so we had to share a table with 2 strangers. However, the food was good and it was a good amount for 2 people. We only had 2 platters to pick from, a fried platter and a seafood platter. There was also a limited selection of appetizer platters. There was a slight "old rag" smell upon walking in, but it was isolated to the entrance. There were only a few very minor downsides. He assured us he wouldn't sit us with anyone from our own city so we could get to know new people.

Also, met Waleed who is the Director of Events & Social Media It made going through police checkpoints a breeze. I recommend picking up your official tickets prior to the event. Most importantly, we were all able to go outside to watch the ball drop approximately 10 minutes before midnight. There was a designated dance area on every floor. My boyfriend and I went to Tonic Times Square for NYE 2015 and we loved it! The event was very well organized and reasonably priced. A perfect spot for Lunch, Dinner, or a Late-Night bite. The menus are always fresh with weekly specialties and seasonal offerings. Of the fruity, brightly colored martinis, the mandarin delivers a nice kick without tasting too sweet. For beer lovers, the tap selections cover ample ground, from Bass to Yuelinging (30 in all). Nightly karaoke and DJs keep the energy moving. A striking red dominates the cavernous main floor, while the second and third feels more intimate. Giant TVs hang behind the first floor bar, where local business folks mingle with tourists. A staple among both locals and international visitors, it has earned the name of "The World's Neighborhood Sports Bar." TripAdvisor ranked as one of the top 20 nightlife venues in the city beating out over 800 others! This three-level bar, lounge and restaurant offers a comfortable escape among the bright lights and flashy screens of Times Square. Tonic has been in the center of the action for over a decade, in the heart of Times Square, New York.
